Pembrey Gateway

The pembrey Gateway forms the Western gateway to the Millennium Coastal Park and is also forms the entrance way to Pembrey county park.




The Saltings

The Saltings area of the coastal park is the western gateway to the park, the area is a Local Nature reserve and is environmentally important as it has Sand Dune and Salt marsh eco systems located adjacent to each other. The area is home to many rare insects and plants as well as a wide range of birds.

Pembrey Harbour

Pembrey Harbour is a classified as an ancient monument site like the nearby Burry Port harbour the original use of the harbour was to export the industrial wares of the area including Coal and Tinplate. The harbour was once links by canal to the many outlaying coal mines of the area. The harbour has silted since being in everyday use, there is a lockout and pier located here which gives some some sunning views of the nearby Whitford head and whitford lighthouse just across on the Gower Peninsular.




Burry Port Harbour

Burry Port Harbour is a historically important dock and was once a big exporter of the industrial wares of the area including Coal and Tinplate. The once tidal docks have recently been turned into a Marina and are wholly used now for leisure craft and a number of commercial fishing boats. The harbour includes a unique lighthouse and pier, the location of the harbour enjoys picturesque views over Carmarthen bay and the Gower Peninsula and in particular Burry Holms on the Gower.

Carmarthenshire Woodlands - Water Feature

This is one of many water feature located within the coastal park, this particular feature is part of the giant earth sculpture and has a number of picnic tables located around it.




Earth Sculpture

This is a Unique giant earth sculpture some people say it looks like a giant serpant, the sculpture is constructed out of old fuel from a power station that used to be located near the site.

Carmartthenshire Woodlands

This area of the park is made up of landscaped parkland and a number of manmade and natural lakes, and scattered wooded areas. There are also picnic tables located in this area and makes an ideal spot for a picnic.

The Coarse fishing centre of excellance consists of 6 larkes including a Six hectare championship match lake, plus a specimen and a carp fishery.

Festival Fields

Festival fields is approx 4 Hectares in size and includes an amphitheatre area. This area has been for a number of one off festivals and regular concerts. It staged the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2000 and also hosts a number of yearly events such as the highly popular big weekend music festival.

The Water Park is situated in the heart of the Coastal Park, it consists of a large manmade Six hectare lake and is surrounded with beautiful rolling parkland and trees. The entire site was once home to heavy Industry including one of the Llanelli's great Steel works. This area is also the gateway to the Swiss Valley cycle way which takes you up the tranquil Swiss Valley Reservoir you can also full this cycle way for Fifteen miles right up to the National Botanical gardens of Wales.

Park Centre

The park centre is the centre of the Millennium Coastal Park roughly the half way point of the continuous cycle way/footpath which runs along its length. It is also the location of a seafront promenade and Llanelli beach, also located next to the promenade is the discovery centre. The discovery centre is the main tourist/information centre for the coastal park, the design of this building is quite striking and has won a number of design awards. A café is located on the first floor of the discovery centre with some of the finest views in Wales with sunning views over to the Gower peninsular and the bay.

Millennium Quay

Millennium Quay was once part of Llanelli’s bustling maritime industry and was home to two of the areas original Four Docks, namely North Dock and Carmarthenshire Dock. It is now home to a water sports training facility, boating basin and is currently being developed into a major residential area and also a number of commercial development including converting the Grade Two listed Pump House building into a Restaurant/Bar.

Lliedi Haven

The Lliedi Haven section of the park get its name from the Afon Lliedi which is the river which runs through the inlet and is also the river that runs through the town of Llanelli. The haven is a local nature reserve, and includes enviromentally senseative sand dune and salt march enviroments. Also next to the haven are the remains of one of Llanelli first Docks the "Carmarthenshire Docks"

The National wetlands centre of Wales is located in the section of the park, the centre and the surrounding consist of 250 acres of habitat comprising of a wide selction of birdlife. Also included in this area is the wetlands discovery centre and the elevated Heron hide.

This stretch of the coastal path runs very close to the waters edge so you enjoy uninterrupted views of the River Loughor and also views of the nearby Gower Peninsular just across the estuary.

Bynea Gateway

Bynea Gateway - Coastal Parks Eastern gateway, the section includes a riverbank boardwalk and Loughor Greenway cycle way and footpath. This stretch of the coastal path runs very close to the waters edge so you enjoy uninterrupted views of the River Loughor and also views of the nearby Gower Peninsular just across the estuary.
